The NASA Perseverance Rover has officially completed a marathon distance of 42.2 kilometers, taking five years to complete since it landed on Mars. The mark of the apparatus crossed 14 June, exploring a mysterious ancient site to the west of the crater Ezero, where remnants of an ancient lake and possible traces of past life had previously been discovered.

Although the maximum speed of a rover under ideal conditions is only 160 meters per hour, this achievement is considered impressive. Perseverance was only the second explorer to complete a marathon on another planet, taking more than 11 years for its predecessor, Opportunity, and 12 years for Curiosity to cover just over 23 miles.

Continuing its western expedition, the Mars regularly transfers new scientific data and images to Earth, including another selfi from the surface of the Red Planet. These materials help scientists better understand the geology and climate history of Mars in search of evidence for ancient microorganisms.
