French streaming service Deezer has revealed that tracks generated by artificial intelligence already account for 44% of all new daily downloads - around 75,000 songs per day, or more than 2 million per month. The real share of such content listening is negligible - only 1-3% of the total number of streams. The reason for such a stark contrast, as Deezer’s own monitoring system has found out, is the massive rounding up of reproductions: 85% of AI-song traffic is deemed artificial and excluded from the calculation of royalties.

According to a survey of 9,000 users from eight countries, the vast majority - 97% - are not audibly able to determine whether the track was created by a neuronetwork or a live performer. Meanwhile, 80% of respondents are in favor of mandatory markup for synthesized content, and 73% want to be warned when an algorithm recommends a fully generated composition. More than half of those polled believe that such tracks should not compete with people’s work on the main charts.

The problem goes beyond statistics: there are cases where fake albums made by bots are distributed under real musicians' names. Thus, the industry faces a need to balance technological progress with protecting artists' rights and ensuring transparency for audiences.
