The dream of fans of the universe created by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien often goes beyond simply rewatching Peter Jackson’s film trilogy. Some enthusiasts go much further and turn ordinary rooms with projectors into full‑fledged themed spaces. It was such a project that was brought to life by a user named jajardel from Canada, who built a private home cinema hall entirely based on “The Lord of the Rings.” In his project, he used thematic decorations, well‑thought‑out lighting, numerous small details, and interactive elements that bring the space to life.
Such large‑scale projects have long since turned into a separate subculture. Fans of the epic recreate the interiors of hobbit holes from the Shire with round doors and wooden beams, the gloomy halls of Moria, or the cozy atmosphere of the Prancing Pony tavern in their homes. Recently, one Briton even spent nine thousand pounds sterling to build a replica of a Star Wars starship in his garden. The key to the persuasiveness of such installations is not so much the large budget as the attention to detail. In the Canadian cinema hall, this includes the correct fonts on the maps, authentic lighting fixtures, and sound accompaniment from the original score by composer Howard Shore.
Inside the room, there is hidden lighting that reacts to the film’s scenes. The room also features a replica of the One Ring, with elven script that becomes visible when heated, tactile maps of Middle‑earth on the walls, and references to well‑known memes from the films. To reproduce sound, the enthusiast uses an Onkyo Atmos 5.1 system, and for the image, a Sony VPL-HW45ES projector. Since the room is kept in complete darkness, the project’s author notes the ideal picture quality. The Canadian spent one day a week building this unique space, starting work in October and completing it in April.
