Executive Director of the US President’s Digital Asset Advisory Board, Patrick Witt, at the 2026 Bitcoin conference said that the Donald Trump administration is preparing a "big announcement" on strategic Bitcoin reserve.

According to him, the experts have already worked out all necessary legal and operational mechanisms, and concrete steps could be made public in the next few weeks. Moreover, Witt promised a "big step forward" even before the proposal took force of federal law.

The basis for the initiative was a decree signed by Trump in March 2025 to build up a strategic stockpile of Bitcoin from coins already held by the state - primarily through criminal and civil confiscation. However, the administration is aware of the limitations of presidential decrees, so legislative work is being done in parallel.
