The horror film Obsession, directed by Curry Barker, has officially surpassed Ryan Coogler's Sinners in worldwide box office and taken first place among the highest-grossing original films of the 2020s. With a budget of only about $750,000, the film has grossed $371 million, while Sinners, with a budget of $90 million, earned $370.3 million. The disparity in budgets makes this result an exceptional achievement for an independent horror movie.

The plot centers on Bayron Bailey, who acquires a magic wand and wishes for his infatuation with Nikki to become mutual. The wish comes true, but with devastating consequences: something takes over Nikki, and she spends the rest of the film in a brutal struggle against this force. The lead roles are played by Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette.

Talk of a sequel is already underway, but Barker is in no rush to continue – the director has ideas but intends to thoroughly refine the concept before starting production. For comparison, Sinners received four Academy Awards out of 16 nominations, setting a record for the most nominations in the history of the ceremony.
