OpenAI has introduced a new personal finance experience inside ChatGPT. The feature is currently available in preview for Pro users in the United States on web and iOS. It allows users to connect bank accounts, cards, investment portfolios and liabilities so ChatGPT can provide answers based on their actual financial situation rather than generic money-management advice.

The account connection is powered by Plaid, a financial data network that supports more than 12,000 institutions. Once accounts are linked, ChatGPT can generate a dashboard showing spending, subscriptions, upcoming payments, portfolio performance and broader financial patterns.

Users can ask questions about budgeting, savings goals, major purchases, recurring expenses or investment risks. For example, ChatGPT may help identify subscription costs, explain where spending has increased or model whether a future financial goal looks realistic based on current income and obligations.

OpenAI is also trying to address privacy and safety concerns. The company says ChatGPT can view financial data through Plaid, but it cannot access full account numbers, move money or make changes to connected accounts. Users can disconnect their financial accounts and delete saved financial memories at any time. OpenAI also notes that ChatGPT is not a replacement for professional financial advice.
