Famous director Guillermo del Toro sharply criticized artificial intelligence, calling the technology "natural stupidity" and accusing it of spreading "visual and cinematic illiteracy." He made his statement at the BFI America dinner celebrating his recent election as an honorary member of the British Film Institute. Del Toro, known for his commitment to practical effects and having won numerous "Academy Awards" for the films "The Labyrinth of the Fawn" and "The Shape of the Water", believes that the sacred contract between man and image is threatened by neuronetworks.

According to the director, AI-generated images are not capable of conveying beauty and evoking genuine emotions. Del Toro warned that the industry was on the brink of disaster, and called for filmmakers to unite in order to "lean toward right" and save visual culture.

Emphasizing his position, the director continues to work on the puppet animation "Buried Giant" based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, remaining true to traditional methods of film making.
