On August 19, 2026, a meeting was held at the White House between United States President Donald Trump and representatives of cryptocurrency companies. During the event, the head of state emphasized the importance of the market structure bill called the CLARITY Act and called on Congress to pass it. This meeting was known in advance, but initially it was assumed that representatives of prediction markets, including Kalshi, would participate, but in the end they were not invited.

The summit was attended by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Kraken co‑CEO Arjun Sethi, Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and Gemini co‑founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. As expected, the administration invited representatives of traditional finance to the meeting, including Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman and Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeffrey Sprecher. In addition, the event was attended by Paul Atkins, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Mike Seleg, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Shortly before the summit, the Securities Commission presented draft rules for token sales, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission will hold a meeting of the new Innovation Advisory Committee on August 20.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the regulation of the cryptocurrency industry. All participants agreed that the CLARITY Act is necessary for the stability of this sector and will also help consolidate the efforts of the current administration to regulate the sector after its term ends. Trump emphasized that new financial technologies are propelling American leadership into the twenty‑first century, and that is why the administration is focused on creating a clear regulatory framework for pioneers and creators so that they can conduct business confidently on American soil and do not have to move to other countries. The president openly called on Congress to approve the CLARITY Act, stressing that this is necessary to ensure the United States’ leadership.

Selig and Atkins agreed with the president. The heads of the regulators emphasized that the era of regulation through coercion is over, but markets need regulatory certainty, so it is important to approve the framework bill. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong noted that the current version of the CLARITY Act is the result of painstaking work, and the administration managed to reach a compromise with the Democrats on certain points. According to him, the most important thing that needs to happen next is a vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15, which will make all the progress achieved by the current administration sustainable and preserve it for decades to come.

Chainlink Labs CEO Sergey Nazarov said in an interview with CoinDesk that the president is confident in the success of the initiative, and there are not many questions and a small group of senators who need to be convinced of the need to regulate the sector. The consideration of the bill was postponed before the United States Senate went on recess, and congressional elections will be held in November 2026.
