United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armyd Alisjabana held a meeting with Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (ECE) Bakhytzhan Sagintayev.

The ECE press service noted that the parties had exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, and also debated the current status and prospects of ESCAP-ECE cooperation. First of all, trends in world trade and the influence of digitalization on national economies are considered. Sagintayev and Alisjabana also talked about the prospects of developing cooperation in the regions.

Sagintayev said that ECE builds systemic cooperation with the UN and regional associations of the organization, including commissions and institutions. The Eurasian Economic Commission regards such interaction as a key element of modern multilateral architecture. According to the Deputy Secretary-General of ECE, engagement with ESCAP is a strategically important and consistent continuation of this effort.

The parties are currently in the process of preparing a new memorandum. It will aim at mutual understanding in the field of digital transformation and development of artificial intelligence (AI).

Remember, the current document expires at the end of this year. At the same time, the draft of the new memorandum includes priorities and objectives for cooperation. In addition to the development of AI and digital transformation, the paper will emphasize the importance of promoting "green economy" principles.
