The Canadian government has taken an initiative to eliminate cryptocurrency ATMs entirely. The corresponding proposal is contained in the economic survey for spring 2026, which was published on 28 April. Officials see such devices as the main channel for legalizing criminally obtained cash and a convenient way to deceive citizens.

Canadians will also be able to purchase digital assets through legal offline companies that provide financial services. According to CBC News statistics, there are about 4,000 cryptotherapists in Canada - the highest per capita figure in the world.

No separate legislation exists for them: they operate under the same rules as traditional currency exchanges, conventional ATMs, or payment services like Western Union.
