Crypto lobby pressures Congress to pass the CLARITY Act

The Digital Chamber is increasing pressure on Congress to pass the CLARITY Act, launching a new online campaign that lets crypto users contact lawmakers and urge them to support the bill. CEO Cody Carbone says the effort is part of a broader push to get the legislation signed into law this year, arguing that the industry needs clear rules and that lawmakers want to hear directly from constituents.

The CLARITY Act is one of the most important U.S. crypto market-structure bills. It would divide oversight of digital assets between the CFTC and SEC, giving the CFTC a central role in regulating digital commodities and related intermediaries, while preserving SEC authority over certain primary market crypto transactions and securities-like assets.

The timing is political. The campaign comes as the midterm election season takes shape and crypto-focused PACs become more active in supporting friendly candidates. The Digital Chamber points to Security.org’s estimate that about 70.4 million U.S. adults own crypto, though that figure is based on a survey rather than official government data. The bill still faces unresolved tensions around stablecoin rewards, DeFi and ethics provisions. For the crypto industry, the message is clear: the window for passing broad federal rules may narrow as election politics intensify.
