Anthropic launched the scientific platform Claude Science and announced plans to self-develop drugs for "launched" diseases, becoming the first AI company to go beyond being a software provider. The solution combines disparate tools and datasets, creating graphs and visualizations to accelerate research. According to the company, customers from the biotech and pharmaceutical industries are already using the product.

Over the past year, Anthropic has actively hired biologists and built its own laboratories, recruiting from AstraZeneca, Novo Nordisk, GSK, and academic institutions. The company did not disclose the specific direction of research and type of diseases on which it will focus first. This approach distinguishes Anthropic from OpenAI, Amazon, and Google, which offer medical AI tools but do not directly develop drugs.

Experts have confirmed that AI is already being used at different stages of drug development - from finding compounds to clinical trials - but it is not a substitute for experimentation and human labor. The professors noted that there is still a long way to go before approved "AI drugs" are available, owing to the complexity of regulatory procedures and lack of quality data. Even with AI, potential drugs still need to be tested for efficacy, toxicity, and storability, and clinical research remains the most expensive part of the process.
