Meta Corporation has entered into an agreement with the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries to lease computing capacity in a new data center for artificial intelligence in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Initially, the capacity of the facility will be 168 MW, with Reliance taking over the full cycle from design and construction to renewable energy provision, connectivity, and operation. Meta leases this capacity with the possibility of further expansion.
The site will operate on renewable energy, and for cooling equipment it is planned to use desalinated seawater. All electricity and water costs of its operations will be covered in the Meta data center itself. The facility is expected to be operational within two years - Mark Zuckerberg’s company plans to integrate it into a global AI infrastructure to service one of the fastest growing markets.
In parallel, Meta announced contracts to supply nearly 1 GW of new renewable energy capacity in India through partnerships with CleanMax and Fourth Partner Energy. These volumes are intended to supplement the power supply of the site in Jamnagar.
The deal deepens the companies' long-term partnership: in 2020, Meta invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms (a subsidiary of Reliance), after which the parties expanded cooperation to digital services and corporate AI. Recall that in April 2026, Meta began collecting data on employee activities to train AI agents.
