Meta is starting to monetize Meta AI directly through consumer subscriptions. The company introduced two paid tiers: Meta One Plus at $7.99 per month and Meta One Premium at $19.99 per month. The plans will give users higher limits for the chatbot, image and video generation, and more capacity for complex prompts. Free access to Meta AI will remain available, but with usage limits. The AI plans will first be tested in Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia.

Meta is also expanding paid features across its core apps. Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus will cost $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus will cost $2.99. The company is also preparing Meta One plans for creators and businesses, including higher-priced packages with tools for visibility, support and audience management.

For investors, the launch matters because Meta needs to show that its AI spending can generate revenue beyond better ad targeting. The company has raised its 2026 capital spending outlook to $125–145 billion, much of it tied to AI infrastructure. Subscriptions will not replace advertising revenue anytime soon, but they offer a direct monetization path similar to OpenAI and Google. Meta shares rose nearly 4% after the announcement, suggesting investors welcomed the first signs of a broader AI revenue model.
