Finnish telecommunications company Nokia has officially unveiled the innovative AI-RAN platform, developed based on Nvidia's advanced technologies specifically for mobile networks. Pilot implementations of this solution are scheduled for late 2026, with full-scale commercial deliveries starting next year. The key feature of the AI-RAN platform is the integration of radio access network (RAN) operations and powerful AI computing on a shared infrastructure. Developers call this the world's first commercial platform for such networks with natively built-in artificial intelligence functions. This architecture will allow mobile operators to significantly increase the return on existing frequency resources and equipment, while also deploying new features much faster without the need for a complete and costly replacement of the existing infrastructure. The development is based on Nokia anyRAN software and the Nvidia Aerial AI-RAN platform, which currently support 4G and 5G standards and are designed to ensure a smooth transition to sixth-generation networks purely through software updates.
According to internal company data, current developments have already demonstrated a spectral efficiency growth of more than twenty percent. Nokia has set ambitious goals: to reach fifty percent by 2027 and exceed one hundred percent by 2028. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang vividly characterized the essence of this partnership, stating: "We are embedding Nvidia CUDA and artificial intelligence into base stations, turning the RAN into a planetary-scale AI computer." An important strategic step will be Nokia's transition to a new subscription-based service model. Thanks to this, telecom operators will gain continuous access to the latest AI algorithms, network optimization tools, and performance enhancements directly through regular software updates, no longer having to wait for the lengthy and costly cycle of physical telecommunications equipment replacement.
This announcement logically continues Nokia's active expansion in the field of intelligent telecommunication solutions. Earlier, the Finnish company and the telecom operator Taiwan Mobile announced an expansion of their partnership to modernize networks in Taiwan. Under this agreement, Nokia will deploy modern AirScale equipment and specialized AI systems designed for process automation, predictive maintenance, and intelligent management of network traffic and energy consumption. It is worth recalling that the foundation of this large-scale cooperation was laid back in October 2025. At that time, Nvidia officially announced new details of its strategic partnership with Nokia, agreeing to acquire a two point nine percent stake in the Finnish telecom giant for one billion US dollars. This investment allowed the parties to begin close collaboration on the joint development of equipment for next-generation mobile networks, setting new standards for the entire industry.
