Bitcoin Depot, North America's largest crypto ATM operator, has officially filed for bankruptcy. This unexpected decision triggered an unprecedented collapse in the company's stock price on the Nasdaq, where it plummeted more than 73% and hit a new all-time low. The company's management attributes the financial collapse to the sharp tightening of regulations in the United States, which has rendered its previous business model completely unprofitable.

According to the issuer's official statement, the voluntary legal proceedings are aimed at a controlled and orderly wind-down of operations followed by a sale of existing assets. The company's new CEO, Alex Holmes, emphasized that the widespread introduction of strict transaction limits, as well as outright legislative bans on cryptocurrency terminals in several states, have led to an avalanche of costs and litigation. The market situation deteriorated so rapidly that investors began dumping shares en masse, pushing their prices down to a critical $0.78 per share, a downward trend that continued into pre-market trading the following day.

This collapse appears particularly dramatic against the backdrop of the recent successes of Bitcoin Depot, whose international network included over 9,000 machines designed to convert cash into digital tokens. Last year, the company was aggressively expanding, acquiring competitors, entering Asian markets, and earning prestigious ratings from leading American media outlets. However, this year, the operator has faced a series of serious problems: from license suspensions in certain regions and a devastating hacker attack that robbed the company of millions of dollars, to major lawsuits alleging insufficient action to combat the fraud plaguing the industry.

The final blow to the giant's reputation and financial stability came from internal problems with the timely submission of audited financial statements to the US Securities and Exchange Commission due to the discovery of gross errors in cash reconciliation mechanisms. Preliminary financial results for the first quarter of this year showed a nearly halved revenue drop to $80.7 million. The company's traditionally profitable business model was transformed into a net loss of millions of dollars, which, according to management, was a direct consequence of excessive pressure from government regulators.
