The organization behind the "Oscar" - the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences - has updated its regulations. The document included provisions on generative artificial intelligence. Now in the "Best Role" and other actor categories only characters who have been played by real people (with their voluntary consent) and whose names are indicated in the film’s final credits.

Scripts must also be written by a human - a similar ban was imposed for dramaturgy. The Academy reserves the right to require filmmakers to report where generative AI has been applied. Interestingly, in all the updated rule text, the phrase "artificial intelligence" occurs only once.

Innovations have emerged in the wake of the active introduction of neuronetworks in Hollywood. One prominent example is the planned "resurrection" of late actor Val Kilmer for the film "Deep as a Grave" with AI. The full-fledged virtual actress Tilly Norwood, for whom videos and other video content have been recorded, has also gained widespread fame. The use of artificial intelligence was a central issue during strikes by Hollywood writers and actors back in 2023.
