Pew Research Survey: most Americans skeptical about developments in neural networks

Only 16% of Americans expect artificial intelligence to have a positive impact on their societies, while about 40% predict negative consequences. This is evidenced by the results of a Pew Research survey, in which more than 5,000 US adults participated. Moreover, 67% of respondents do not believe that the authorities can regulate AI effectively, and 59% distrust developer companies. Almost two-thirds of respondents believe that technology is evolving too fast, with the biggest skeptics being democrats under 30, where only 14% expect a positive impact.

Despite the pessimistic mood, daily usage of network data continues to grow. About a quarter of Americans communicate daily with AI chat bots, among which ChatGPT remains the unqualified leader (44% of adult users), ahead of Gemini (24%), Copilot (17%) and Meta AI (14%). This paradox is also borne out by other social scientists: according to the YouGov survey in May 2026, 71% of respondents considered AI development too rapid, and the number of pessimists assessing the long-term impact of technology on society was twice that of optimists.
