The AI startup Cursor, which gained widespread recognition thanks to its code‑writing tool, has officially come under the control of the aerospace corporation SpaceX. The parties announced the upcoming deal back in June, but the active rapprochement between the companies began in April with joint model training. The acquisition cost amounted to $60 billion, but no cash was transferred — the entire transaction was carried out as an exchange for SpaceX shares. Earlier this year, the corporation already integrated another company of Elon Musk’s – xAI, which was officially renamed SpaceXAI in July.
In the official Cursor blog, the developers noted that they now have access to the world’s largest fleet of graphics processors. These computing resources will make it possible to create and train more advanced neural networks, offering them to customers at a significantly lower price. Shortly after the rebranding, the combined teams of SpaceXAI and Cursor released the Grok 4.5 model, designed for efficient programming, solving agent tasks, and working with knowledge at significantly lower costs. Next, Grok 4.6 was presented, trained on practical tasks in the field of general programming, web development, and computer‑aided design systems.
Cursor described the new models as an early demonstration of the possibilities of working together with SpaceXAI. The combination of computing infrastructure with advanced tools for developers forms a bundle in which the processes of training complex models and creating final products for programmers now develop within a single corporate structure. The deal between SpaceX and Cursor has been closed, and the companies have moved on to working together within a new division.
