The global auto market declined in February 2026. Analysts estimate that global sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles totaled approximately 6.04 million units, down 8.5% year-on-year.
Against this backdrop, China lost its status as the largest auto market, which it had held for many years. The US led the month with approximately 1.18 million vehicles sold. In China, sales totaled approximately 1.14 million units, a sharp decline of more than 30%.
The main reason for the decline in the Chinese market was the extended Lunar New Year holidays. This resulted in only 16 working days in February, leading to a decline in production activity and sales volumes.
The situation in other major markets was less clear. Western Europe recorded a slight increase in sales, reaching 986,000 vehicles, while Eastern Europe saw a 3.1% decline. The market also showed moderate growth in South America.
Among key markets, Japan, South Korea, and Canada saw sales decline, reflecting the overall instability of global automobile demand.
Meanwhile, the Belarusian automobile market showed positive dynamics. In February, legal entities purchased approximately 4,100 new vehicles, up 13% from the previous month, with sales of local brands driving the growth.
