Analysts at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) stated that the term "stablecoin" was out of date. They suggested that such assets should be called "oncheen-assets" or "digital dollars." In their view, exchange-rate stability is no longer a primary characteristic - it is now only a basic requirement, not a competitive advantage.
Modern tokens, pegged to national currencies, provide instant transfers, are easily integrated into applications and run on programmable blockchain networks. Large corporations are increasingly using dollar tokens for payments, and businesses no longer view them simply as a tool for exchange trading.
Names like "digital dollars," "digital euros," or "onetree assets" more accurately reflect the essence of these assets, and people immediately understand what is being said. Experts a16z emphasize a profound change in the nature of money: it now functions as software, capital is easily programmed and embedded directly into consumer services.
