Sui launched confidential translations: Amount privacy when opening addresses

Sui has launched public beta testing of sensitive translations: the feature hides transaction amounts and token balances, but leaves sender and recipient addresses, token type, and transaction time open. This approach distinguishes the network from private coins like Monero, betting on a trade-off between privacy and regulatory compromise.
Twisted ElGamal cryptography based on Ristretto255 is responsible for encryption in combination with zero-disclosure evidence. This allows the network to verify the correctness of the transfer without disclosing the amount, preventing cost overruns or unauthorized issuance. Token issuers can add audit keys to decrypt data by authorized parties and retain the ability to freeze and seize assets.
The target audience is not the proponents of maximum anonymity, but institutional participants: payment companies, issuers of stablecoins, managing corporate reserves. For them, public balance sheets can reveal strategy or business connections ahead of time. Interest in the model has already been shown by Bridge, TRM Labs and Merkle Science, which are testing integration with risk monitoring and assessment infrastructure.
Launch is taking place against the backdrop of recent Sui network outages in late May, which could affect the credibility of the new feature. Since the announcement, the $SUI token has increased by almost 5%, trading around $0.75, but growth has coincided with the overall recovery of altcoins, so it is difficult to assess the contribution of this news to price dynamics in isolation.
