The Chinese technology giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. has launched a beta version of an artificial intelligence model for music generation, capable of turning a text query into a full‑fledged song. The new neural network, called HappyShrimp 1.0, can create melodies, arrangements, lyrics, and vocal parts based on prompts describing an emotion, a story, or a musical genre. Users now have the opportunity to create full vocal tracks or instrumental compositions without special musical knowledge, as well as to provide their own lyrics for song generation.
The model was developed by the Token Hub business group of Alibaba. It supports music generation based on text for both vocal songs and instrumental compositions in various genres, including Chinese style, pop, rhythm and blues and soul, hip‑hop, rock, funk, electronic music, classical, and jazz. HappyShrimp 1.0 generates a structured representation of musical grammar, including song structure, rhythmic development, and harmonic movement, as well as semantics covering the emotional tone, energy profile, and intent of the text. Users can specify instrumentation, vocal style, narrative flow, and emotional dynamics in their requests..
Alibaba representatives reported that HappyShrimp will collaborate with Taihe Music Group, one of the leading providers of music services in China. The partnership will focus on co‑creation with artists and the development of new musical content.
