The unsuccessful implementation of the BIP-110 soft fork became an illustrative example of the stability of the consensus of the first cryptocurrency. Giacomo Zucco, director of the Plan B Network, expressed the opinion that today it is almost impossible to reproduce the conditions in which bitcoin originally appeared. The proposal involved changing the consensus rules to combat transactions that its supporters considered spam. However, the initiative did not receive widespread community support. The nodes that switched to the new rules separated from the main network into an independent branch with a small share of the hashrate. One of the most active ideologists of this fork, Luke Dash Jr., tried to preserve the viability of the new blockchain. The programmer was even going to change the proof-of-work algorithm, choosing it randomly. However, the miners quickly began to adjust the blocks to the desired symbols, and the experiment had to be curtailed.

Giacomo Zucco noted that the entire management of the alternative network was confined to one person. The developer literally distributed commands via messenger, which is an absolute concentration of centralization. The expert emphasized that this clearly proves the impossibility of reproducing bitcoin in an honest way in modern conditions. He contrasted this situation with the first years of digital gold's existence. At that time, the network was developing without close attention from the authorities, speculators and other interested participants. Bitcoin was created and maintained for several years outside the field of view of markets and government agencies. It was this unique set of circumstances that Zucco called the immaculate conception of the first cryptocurrency. It is simply impossible to repeat this historical path in our days.

The Director of Plan B described the situation around BIP-110 as a very complex social phenomenon. This conflict has entwined disputes about the nature of spam, issues around Bitcoin Core and the distribution of roles between nodes and miners. Zucco acknowledged that some of the discussions were beneficial, but criticized the thesis about the need for urgent changes due to legal risks. Such rhetoric creates a false sense of an emergency and replaces rational reasoning with panic. Against the background of this conflict, the developers proposed to remove Luke Dash Jr. from the post of editor of bitcoin proposals. On August 11, he was removed from this post for abuse of authority. Zucco criticized the decision, calling it a wrong move and an act of retaliation. In his opinion, the removal will only strengthen the arguments of fork supporters who consider the development process to be centralized.
