Tom Lee: crypto market correction – not the end of the bull cycle, but healthy profit-taking

Tom Lee, head of BitMine and managing partner at Fundstrat, stated in a CNBC interview that he does not view the recent correction in equity and crypto markets as a signal that the bull cycle has ended. According to him, the market remains "strong and healthy," and the current profit-taking is explained by a combination of factors: concerns about AI sector overheating, expectations of large capital raises from technology companies, and geopolitical tensions. At the same time, Lee warned that volatility could persist at least until June 12.

Lee noted that investors are worried about the market's ability to absorb a wave of upcoming IPOs – in particular, from Google, SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta. However, he remains convinced that liquidity is sufficient: approximately $7 trillion in cash sits on the sidelines, the IPO order book is full, and high-net-worth investors have capital to participate in new listings. Historically, large IPOs have rarely marked true market tops, and Lee does not expect exceptions this time.

Separately, the expert commented on the cryptocurrency situation. He acknowledged investor disappointment with digital asset performance in 2025 against the backdrop of the AI sector's stronger outperformance. However, Lee emphasized: the more actively artificial intelligence develops, the greater the need for blockchain – for transaction verification, data confirmation, and protecting the financial system from AI-related risks. He also cited cybersecurity incidents, including the recent event in the Zcash ecosystem, as examples of growing threats that blockchain could help mitigate.

Lee identified asset tokenization as an important driver: moving money, stocks, real estate, and other instruments onto blockchain. In his view, this is a "major innovation" possible only thanks to crypto infrastructure. Despite the fact that current hype is concentrated around AI, the fundamental narrative of cryptocurrencies remains strong.

Regarding the SpaceX IPO, which some analysts view as a potential local market top, Lee expressed confidence: the market will not only absorb the listing but also show positive momentum afterward. For investors who do not own Tesla shares, this could become a way to gain access to Elon Musk's ventures.
