The financial division of the automotive giant Toyota, Toyota Finance, has opened applications for the first-ever self-issued tokenized corporate bonds by Toyota Group. Investors in Japan can now purchase a one-year bond via the TOYOTA Wallet mobile app without the need to open a brokerage account, which makes this investment product significantly more accessible to retail customers. We are talking about securities called the Toyota Finance 2nd Security Token Corporate Bond, which the company has also designated as the TOYOTA Wallet Tsumugu Bond.

The minimum investment amount is one hundred thousand Japanese yen, or about six hundred seventy‑six dollars, and the total issue volume is one billion yen, which is equivalent to approximately six million four hundred thirty thousand dollars. The bond has a maturity period of one year and provides a yield of one point seven two percent per annum. The securities are tokenized on the blockchain infrastructure of the Japanese company BOOSTRY, and the project is also supported by Toyota Financial Services and the SMBC financial group.

Unlike traditional Toyota bonds, the new product can be purchased without opening a securities account. To do this, it is enough to install the TOYOTA Wallet app and submit an application via a special page. Toyota Finance representatives explained that the direct placement model allows the company to combine in one ecosystem the submission of an application for a bond, communication with investors during its term, as well as the provision of bonuses and other benefits to owners of the tokenized asset. Investors can receive a cash bonus to their wallet balance for meeting certain conditions, and among the additional benefits are the opportunity to win tickets to races at the Fuji Speedway and take part in test drives of certain Lexus, GR, and classic Toyota models.

Previously, Toyota Financial Services and Toyota Finance have already issued tokenized bonds: the first such issue took place in March 2025, but back then the securities were purchased by investors through traditional securities accounts. This time, the automaker has changed its approach and moved to self‑placement in order to control the entire process of interaction with the investor. Previously, experts noted that the next major stage in the development of tokenization could be personalized investment portfolios, and the potential of the technology lies not only in round‑the‑clock trading but also in the ability to scale individual strategies.
