Mark Zuckerberg told Meta employees that the company does not expect additional company-wide layoffs for the rest of 2026, according to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters. The message came after a major restructuring in which Meta cut about 10% of its global workforce and moved roughly 7,000 employees into new initiatives tied to AI-powered workflows.

Reuters reports that the layoffs and transfers together affect about 20% of Meta’s workforce. Internal documents also showed that the restructuring was planned in stages and included the removal of some management roles. The broader goal is to make Meta flatter, faster and more focused on AI-native ways of working.

Employees reacted cautiously to Zuckerberg’s wording. Some highlighted the phrases “company-wide” and “expect,” suggesting concern that smaller team-level cuts could still happen later. Zuckerberg also acknowledged that Meta’s internal communication had not been as clear as it should have been and said the company would work to improve it.

For Meta, the episode reflects the cost of its accelerated AI transition. The company is cutting expenses and reshaping teams to embed artificial intelligence deeper into products and internal operations. But even with no further broad layoffs expected, uncertainty inside the workforce has not fully disappeared.
