The billionaire and head of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, has allocated a half-billion dollars from his charity, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, to develop neural network models that mimic the work of human cells.

The five-year project sets an ambitious goal of "defeating all diseases by using biology in conjunction with artificial intelligence." The foundation was founded by Zuckerberg and his wife, pediatrician Priscilla Chan.

The distribution of funds is as follows: $400 million will go to Biohub’s internal AI projects, and another $100 million in grants will go to external research groups. Biohub Science Manager Alex Travers emphasized that adequate modeling of biological complexity requires data volumes in order of magnitude greater than current levels. According to him, the industry requires new methods of observing cellular processes at both the molecular and tissue levels.
