An unknown attacker attacked the DeFi protocol TesseraDAO, generating 99 million TSR unfunded tokens on the BNB Chain network and stealing about $2.5 million in USDT stablecoins. The incident was documented by cybersecurity experts from PeckShieldAlert, noting that the native platform token had collapsed in price by 99% and continues to decline.
The hacker converted printed assets into USDT, then transferred funds to the Ethereum network and laundered 1,285.5 ETH (about $2.5 million) through the Tornado Cash mixer. TesseraDAO representatives have not yet commented on the incident. The attack was part of a series of recent exploits: a few days earlier, $815,000 had been withdrawn from the Alephium TokenBridge bridge into Ethereum by issuing 13.76 million fake ALPH, and in the Stake DAO (Arbitrum network) protocol, the hacker created 5.4 trillion vsdCRV, but due to low liquidity, could only extract $91,000.
These incidents are taking place against the background of overall statistics for May: CertiK estimates that the cryptocurrency’s aggregate damage from hacker attacks was $68.3 million, down almost 90% from April when losses exceeded $650 million. The biggest losses last month were the break of the Verus Protocol cross-bridge ($11.5 million) and THORChain ($10.1 million).
