The US House of Representatives' Committee on Financial Services scheduled a mobile hearing on the Cryptocurrency Structure Act on July 17, 2026. The event aims to raise the public profile of the initiative, gather public comments and persuade political opponents to support the bill.
The bill had already been approved by the Banking Committee and the Committee on Agriculture in mid-May, and earlier, in the summer of 2025, received support from similar bodies in the House of Representatives. The document defines the powers between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), defining the areas of oversight for different segments of the cryptocurrency industry.
But the path to a presidential signature remains difficult. The bill was rejected by an influential coalition of Catholic organizations and leaders, which sent an open letter to the Senate warning of possible risks. Moreover, passage through the Senate requires at least partial support from Democrats, who are demanding that conflict-of-interest provisions be included. White House spokesman Patrick Witt is negotiating with them, but according to Democrat Adam Schiff, the deal is "a long way off."
The administration initially planned to enact CLARITY before July 4, 2026, but as of June 24, the date for the Senate vote has not been set, which calls into question the ambitious timetable for comprehensive US crypto regulation.
