$530 Million Withdrawn from Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in One Day

On November 5, 2026, American spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for Bitcoin and Ethereum recorded a combined net capital outflow of approximately $530 million. Investors withdrew funds amid a sell-off in U.S. tech stocks and a decline in the value of major cryptocurrencies.

According to data from SoSoValue and Farside Investors, spot Bitcoin ETFs saw an outflow of $430.2 million during the trading session. The net outflow from Ethereum funds amounted to about $99.9 million.

The figures changed sharply after the previous day, when both segments of ETFs received a total net inflow of $127.6 million. Of this amount, Bitcoin funds accounted for $74.6 million, while Ethereum funds received $53 million.

The brief recovery coincided with Bitcoin rising above $80,000 following the U.S. midterm elections. However, by November 5, BTC had fallen below $76,000, and the U.S. stock market faced a massive sell-off.

The Nasdaq Composite Index ended Thursday down 5.5%, marking the largest daily drop since April 2025. Technology companies and semiconductor manufacturers were particularly under pressure amid concerns about the costs of developing artificial intelligence.

Fidelity and BlackRock led outflows from Bitcoin ETFs

The largest net capital outflow among American Bitcoin funds on November 5 was recorded by the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) – about $199.9 million.

The day before, the fund received a net inflow of $236.7 million. Thus, the change in the indicator between the two trading sessions amounted to $436.6 million.

BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) ended November 5 with a net outflow of $105 million. This was the fifth consecutive trading session with a negative capital flow for the largest Bitcoin ETF of the management company.

From October 30 to November 5, the total outflow from IBIT amounted to about $1.04 billion.

Other funds also ended the day with negative results. Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) saw an outflow of $49.9 million, Franklin Bitcoin ETF (EZBC) $32.9 million, and VanEck Bitcoin ETF (HODL) $23.6 million.

In the first four trading sessions of November, American spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a total net outflow of $869.8 million. The only positive day during this period was November 4.

Analysts assess the consequences of the sell-off

Cryptocurrency analyst Michaël van de Poppe suggested that Bitcoin and the Nasdaq index might form a short-term price bottom on November 6.

In his assessment, BTC may briefly dip below $75,000 before signs of recovery appear. However, this scenario remains an analyst's forecast and does not confirm the end of the market decline.

Meanwhile, Dean Lulkin, CEO of Cardiff and founder of The Dean’s List, noted that the current situation should not be directly compared to the 2008 financial crisis.

In his opinion, risks remain in commercial real estate, private lending, and AI investments, but the financial condition of banks and households today differs from the pre-crisis period.

The further dynamics of flows into cryptocurrency ETFs will depend on the state of financial markets and investors' decisions on capital allocation among risky assets.

At the same time, the net outflow of funds from the funds does not equal their investment losses. The indicator reflects the difference between the creation and redemption of ETF shares during the reporting session.
