The digital asset market demonstrated significant price action after breaking out of a six-week consolidation range. Bitcoin's price reached $79,300, accompanied by a large-scale liquidation of short positions totaling approximately $2.7 billion. According to analysts at Wintermute, this move was amplified by a high concentration of short positions near the upper boundary of the trading range. Experts note that the market has definitively exited its low-volatility phase, and the fulfillment of key technical conditions allowed them to revise their short-term outlook toward positive momentum. At the same time, analysts point out that from a technical perspective, a scenario of price returning to previous support levels to test their strength remains possible.
An important macroeconomic factor that contributed to the shift in market sentiment was a fiscal decision related to expanding the buyback of long-term Treasury bonds. This measure is aimed at managing liquidity in the financial sector. Nevertheless, Wintermute experts emphasize that a short squeeze effect alone is insufficient for a sustained market rally. The presence of organic spot demand is now the key condition.
Institutional investment data confirms the presence of structural interest. During the reporting week, net inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs totaled $1.92 billion, of which $1.33 billion came from BlackRock's IBIT fund. In parallel, Ethereum ETFs recorded inflows of $693 million. The total capital attracted into crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) reached approximately $2.6 billion. Analysts note that this figure qualitatively distinguishes the current growth phase from the one seen in May, when similar price levels were not accompanied by comparable support from institutional products.
The state of the derivatives market also points to a structural shift. Seven-day implied volatility rose above 40%. Funding rates remain positive but have not reached extreme levels. According to analysts, this indicates a gradual and controlled recovery in leverage usage following the preceding large-scale market deleveraging.
Despite the optimistic assessments, analysts highlight factors that could alter the current trend. Approximately 92% of all recent liquidations involved short positions, which is a classic sign of a short squeeze. Experts note that a revision to a more cautious outlook may be warranted if two conditions occur simultaneously: a negative weekly net inflow into Bitcoin ETFs and Bitcoin's price falling below $67,000. Such a scenario would indicate that the rally was driven primarily by technical factors rather than fundamental demand.
