Anthropic is ready to pay Meta 10 billion dollars for the lease of computing power

Meta is actively negotiating with the developer of artificial intelligence, Anthropic. The subject of discussion was the rental of computing power of data centers. The potential two-year deal could reach ten billion dollars. This contract will be Meta's first large-scale agreement for the sale of AI infrastructure. According to sources, Anthropic made an offer back in June. The company is ready to pay in monthly installments for two years. The agreement also provides for the possibility of early termination by either party. However, negotiations are at an early stage, so the signing is not guaranteed. Both companies have so far officially declined to comment on this issue.
This cooperation confirms the acute shortage of computing resources in the field of AI. The demand for infrastructure increased dramatically after the launch of the Claude Code corporate product. In May, Anthropic already signed a major deal with SpaceX. Then the developer agreed to pay almost forty-five billion dollars over three years. At the same time, Meta itself actively rents additional resources from other operators. The company previously entered into multibillion-dollar agreements with Nebius and CoreWeave. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to spend up to one hundred forty-five billion dollars on AI this year. These costs are more than double the cost of last year.
The potential contract is able to partially alleviate investors' concerns about the high Meta costs. The company recognizes that it can build more data centers than is required for its own services. In this case, the sale of excess computing resources will become a separate business. Zuckerberg noted that many firms are already asking to sell them capacity at a certain premium. Meta is not selling resources yet, hoping to use them for its products. However, the excess infrastructure will be a strong argument for commercial leases. This deal demonstrates the general trend towards collaboration between technology giants. Competitors are forced to join forces due to a critical shortage of modern equipment.
