Anthropic has introduced a new version of its AI model - Claude Sonnet 5. The key innovation is that it focuses not only on human requests, but also on tasks performed by an artificial intelligence agent. The model shows performance comparable to more expensive versions of Opus, but at a reduced cost.

As of September 1, the base price for Sonnet 5 will be $3 per million of login tokens and $15 per million of weekend. Prior to that date, even lower rates apply. For comparison, the current Opus 4.8 model costs $4 and $25 per million of input and output tokens respectively.

Sonnet 5 will be available via Claude Code and the Claude platform, as well as being included in all subscription plans - including the default model role for free and professional levels.

An important improvement is a new token generator that improves the efficiency of handling requests in scenarios with active AI agents. Because agents generate significantly more requests than humans, they are often the cause of high token usage and cost growth, especially in the corporate segment. Sonnet 5 aims to reduce this burden without compromising the quality of responses.
