Apple has updated the App Store moderation rules, expanding the list of apps that can be deleted or not allowed to be published. Included in the restrictions were "simple timers", apps with wallpapers and sound effects, as well as blatantly low-quality content such as jump-start simulators and meteorism. For multiple attempts to publish such spam, developers are threatened with exclusion from the Apple Developer Program.

The new rules also affect services that have already been published. If the app is out of date or out of date, Apple will first send a warning to the contributor suggesting that they work on the product and only then will they decide to delete it. Previously, the company had rejected services that did not provide "a unique and high-quality user experience," including basic flashlights and various guesses.

The reason for tighter controls was an unprecedented increase in published apps. According to TechCrunch, in the first quarter of 2026, downloads from the App Store and Google Play increased by 60% year on year. The main drivers of this boom were the tools for "vaib-coding", which allowed people to create mobile services with minimal technical knowledge, leading to a surge in duplicate and low-quality software.
