Base Plans to Tokenize Around 500 Stocks by the End of 2026

Coinbase and Base have announced plans to tokenize around 500 stocks by the end of 2026. This was revealed by Nick See Tong, Head of Base for the Asia-Pacific region and Singapore, during a conversation with the Incrypted team at CoinFerenceX. According to him, stock tokenization will be one of the priority areas for Coinbase and Base in the next one to two years.

See Tong noted that Coinbase entered the securities tokenization market somewhat late, but the model chosen by the company differs from competitors' offerings. The tokenized stocks are backed by real securities on a 1:1 basis, stored in a bankruptcy-protected structure. According to him, the plan is to add about 10 new stocks every day over the coming months, and by the end of the year, approximately 500 stocks will be on the blockchain with deep liquidity.

The Base representative added that the ecosystem is interested in attracting developers of financial products based on tokenized securities. Among the potential areas, he mentioned lending, borrowing, structured products, and options. Coinbase previously introduced tokenized stocks on the Base blockchain on 25.08.2026.

In response to a question about the most discussed areas of the crypto market, See Tong highlighted AI agents. In his opinion, widespread adoption of autonomous e-commerce is still a long way off. Users must first get accustomed to using AI agents for everyday tasks, including purchasing goods and booking services, and only then can a broad implementation of such solutions for blockchain transactions be expected. He also suggested that the next billion cryptocurrency users will be AI agents.

The most underrated area of the industry, according to the Base representative, is privacy. He stated that privacy is essential for any financial institution conducting operations and trading on the blockchain. He expects that in the next one to two years, privacy solutions will become significantly more in demand and notes that blockchain platform developers are already working on the relevant technologies. Previously, NEAR Protocol co-founder Illia Polosukhin emphasized the importance of privacy for the entry of institutional players in a conversation with Incrypted.
