Binance cryptocurrency exchange has officially announced the launch of commodity options for gold and silver with settlements in the USDT stablecoin. The new financial instrument allows users to speculate on changes in the value of precious metals without having to open a separate brokerage account and without physically delivering the underlying asset. At the initial stage, two basic assets are available: gold under the XAUUSDT ticker and silver under the XAGUSDT ticker. The company's representatives noted that Binance was the first centralized crypto exchange to offer these metals in the format of direct option contracts, and they do not exclude further expansion of the list of available commodity derivatives.

Commodity options operate on the same technological infrastructure and in a single user interface as the existing cryptocurrency options platforms. Market participants can purchase Call-type contracts in anticipation of an increase in the price of the underlying asset and Put-type contracts to hedge positions or play short. For the option buyer, the maximum financial risk is limited by the amount of the premium paid, excluding trading fees. The contracts have a European execution style, which implies the possibility of their implementation exclusively on the expiration date, however, users retain the right to close an open position ahead of schedule before the expiration date.

All financial settlements under the new contracts are carried out exclusively in USDT, which eliminates the need for logistical processes for the physical delivery of gold or silver. At the initial stage, there is a special promotional tariff for the product, at which the maker's commission is zero percent, and the taker's commission is set at 0.02 percent. The launch of commodity options is part of Binance's consistent strategy to diversify its product line beyond traditional crypto assets. Currently, the platform already offers perpetual contracts for certain traditional assets, tokenized securities and other complex financial instruments, the availability of which depends on the jurisdictional restrictions of a particular region.
