Bitdeer to Deploy ASIC Miners at Texas Wind Energy Facility

Bitdeer Technologies will begin deploying Bitcoin mining equipment at the Kati 1 wind energy facility in the US state of Texas. The project is being developed in partnership with energy infrastructure operator Soluna and involves the installation of ASIC miners with a combined capacity of 28 MW. The equipment will be deployed directly on-site, connected to the Las Majadas wind farm, and Bitdeer's additional hashrate upon completion of deployment is expected to reach approximately 1.93 EH/s. Work is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with equipment being brought online in stages. The financial terms of the agreement and the duration of the partnership were not disclosed.

Kati 1 is a data center purpose-built to be co-located with a renewable energy facility. The total capacity of the site is 83 MW, while Bitdeer plans to use 28 MW for mining. The company will supply its own Sealminer A2 Pro Air ASIC miners, while Soluna will provide the site, electricity, and operational infrastructure management. Revenue generated by the equipment will be shared between the parties. This model enables the use of computational load directly adjacent to the power generation source, without the need to build separate infrastructure for transmitting electricity to conventional consumers. The total potential capacity of the entire Kati project is estimated by the operator at 3.5 EH/s.

For Soluna, the project forms part of a broader strategy to leverage renewable energy within computational infrastructure. The company views Bitcoin mining as one way to monetize available energy capacity, while also developing artificial intelligence and high-performance computing verticals. The next phase of Kati's development envisions the creation of over 100 MW of infrastructure for AI and HPC workloads. As a result, the site is gradually evolving from a purely mining operation into a versatile computing center capable of serving various types of high-performance workloads.

The project's development is taking place against the backdrop of a shifting mining market landscape. Bitdeer has been actively expanding its own computing capacity: as of the end of June, the company's operational hashrate reached 73 EH/s, representing an increase of more than 340 percent year-over-year. This allowed the company to surpass long-time leader MARA in Bitcoin mining capacity. Meanwhile, excluding Bitdeer, public miners have reduced their realized hashrate by 21% since the fourth quarter of 2025.

At the same time, a portion of public miners are redirecting their infrastructure toward AI, cloud computing, and colocation services. According to industry analysts, nine major companies — including Core Scientific, TeraWulf, Bitdeer, and IREN — increased their combined revenue from HPC, AI cloud, and colocation segments by 52% in the second quarter of 2026, reaching $205.8 million compared to $135.4 million in the previous quarter. Over the first six months of 2026, 15 public Bitcoin miners and AI infrastructure operators invested $30.7 billion in equipment — 42.6% more than in all of 2025.

Notably, in August TeraWulf received approval from Kentucky state regulators to power the Justified Data Campus, a 482 MW data center facility. The company plans to use the site to fulfill a 20-year contract with Anthropic to deliver 401 MW of critical IT load. The agreement is expected to generate approximately $19 billion in revenue for TeraWulf in the first phase alone, with data center development and construction costs estimated at $4–4.5 billion, based on a projected cost of $10–12 million per MW.

Additional context is provided by the state of the Bitcoin network. On August 23, following a scheduled difficulty adjustment, the mining difficulty of the leading cryptocurrency declined by 1.3% to 125.81 T, returning to levels last seen in mid-February (125.86 T). The seven-day moving average hashrate of the network stands at 867.4 EH/s. Computing power has been on a downward trend since October 2025, when it reached 1.15 ZH/s amid the cryptocurrency's all-time price high.
