Bitcoin Sets New Local High Above $82,000 Before Pulling Back to $81,000

Bitcoin climbed to a daily high near $82,100 before pulling back to $81,000. According to CoinGecko, the price rose 4.5% over the past 24 hours. August proved to be a month of exceptional growth: it marked Bitcoin's strongest monthly gain since November 2024. Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) posted even more impressive results over the same period. However, specialists at Fidelity Digital Assets are cautious about the pace of the upward move, urging investors to consider that a single strong rally can mask a more complex market picture.

Chris Kuiper, Vice President of Research at Fidelity Digital Assets, noted that prior to previous major bull rallies, the market behaved in a similar fashion: sharp gains were typically preceded by a period of low volatility. That is precisely how conditions unfolded from June through the end of August, he clarified. Some traders follow Bitcoin's four-year cycle theory, according to which bear market price bottoms recur approximately every four years. Counting from the November 2022 low, the next bottom could arrive around November 2026. Kuiper cautions that this pattern has never played out on a strict schedule, making it unsuitable for precise market timing. In his view, the cycle may have already ended in July — but a new low before year-end cannot be ruled out either.

Kuiper also points out that BTC's price failed to collapse even in the face of bad news, including the Coldcard hardware wallet vulnerability story. In his view, this may indicate that sellers have very little remaining strength to push the market lower.

Another analyst, Eric Crown, argues the opposite — that the bear market phase ended in August. Against the backdrop of rising demand for stablecoins and real-world asset tokenization, Fidelity sees signs of resilience in Bitcoin's ecosystem fundamentals, even as the asset's price continues to lag. Crypto adoption levels and price action are beginning to converge again, which the firm's experts consider a critically important signal. Meanwhile, work on the CLARITY Act continues in the United States — legislation intended to clarify federal oversight of cryptocurrencies — though it remains stalled in the Senate. Separately, the SEC is gathering comments on Regulation Crypto Assets, a framework governing early-stage digital asset offerings. Whether the link between adoption and Bitcoin's price holds through year-end will ultimately be decided by the market — but according to Fidelity, this is the metric investors should be watching most closely.
