Bitcoin Held Ground Near the $79,882 Mark

The leading cryptocurrency posted moderate gains on 28.08.2026, holding near recent price highs amid market caution ahead of the anticipated speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh. As of 09:12 Moscow time, Bitcoin was up 1.3%, reaching $79,882.3, remaining close to the three-month peak above $81,000 recorded earlier in the week.

On a weekly basis, Bitcoin is showing positive momentum of around 2%, reflecting a significant recovery in prices over the past seven days. The digital asset was supported by positive expectations surrounding regulatory developments in the United States, as well as U.S. Treasury operations in the government bond market, which helped redirect capital into alternative stores of value. An additional supporting factor was the large-scale rally in the technology stock sector that followed the release of Nvidia's financial results.

Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole economic symposium is scheduled for Friday and will be closely analyzed by market participants for signals about the future course of monetary policy. The Fed Chair has largely refrained from specific comments on the interest rate trajectory thus far, though he has previously reaffirmed the central bank's commitment to its 2% annual inflation target. Personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index data released during the week — the Fed's preferred inflation gauge — showed that inflationary pressure remained above the target level in July, reinforcing expectations of a tighter monetary policy stance.

Additional context for interpreting Warsh's remarks is provided by the U.S. Treasury's actions in the debt market. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a doubling of Treasury bond buyback operations, aimed at supporting liquidity in the government debt market. Since rising interest rates traditionally exert a restraining influence on speculative assets, including cryptocurrencies, the Fed Chair's rhetoric has the potential to trigger significant price movements in this segment.

The broader cryptocurrency market moved higher alongside Bitcoin, though caution ahead of Warsh's speech limited the extent of the gains. Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, rose 0.3% to $2,501.33, while XRP gained 1.4%. Solana outperformed with a 6% increase, Cardano held steady, and BNB rose 1%. In the meme token segment, Dogecoin added 1.4%, while TRUMP posted a substantial gain of 24% during the trading session.
