The Stacks blockchain platform, based on the Bitcoin network, has successfully activated the PoX-5 update on block number 960 230. This hard fork passed without technical failures and transferred the network to new consensus rules. Preparations for the transition were carried out in advance: the signatories, node operators and the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance, completely updated their infrastructure before activation. This event marks the launch of the first stage of a large-scale series of Satoshi Upgrades aimed at fundamentally developing and expanding the functionality of the Stacks protocol.

The key technological innovation of the PoX-5 version was the development of a technical base for launching bitcoin staking. The update introduces the Bitcoin Bonds mechanism, which allows users who meet the protocol requirements to use their BTC coins on the Bitcoin network in conjunction with STX tokens in the Stacks ecosystem. The main advantage of this architecture is the ability to generate returns in bitcoins without transferring assets under the control of third parties, which ensures a high level of security and preserves the principle of non-custodial storage of funds. The first stage of implementation will be the launch of the institutional Genesis Bond, after which the functionality will be gradually opened to individual staking pools.

In addition to the introduction of new financial instruments, the PoX-5 update significantly optimizes the user experience of network participants. The protocol completely eliminates pre-existing waiting periods, which makes the process of participating in pool staking much more flexible and accessible for retail investors. Simplifying the mechanics of interacting with the network, combined with the ability to generate passive income in the underlying asset, strengthens Stacks' position as the leading scaling layer for Bitcoin. This upgrade creates a solid foundation for attracting additional capital and further increasing liquidity in the ecosystem.
