Apple has recorded record revenue in India. The figure exceeded the ten billion dollar mark for the first time. The data relates to the last fiscal year. This is reported by the Bloomberg news agency. Revenue grew at a double-digit pace relative to the previous period. A year earlier, the figure was about nine billion. The main share of sales was provided by the flagship iPhone smartphones. Demand for iPad tablets and MacBook laptops has also increased. India is becoming an important region for the American manufacturer. The company is consistently expanding its presence in this market. The exchange rate of the local currency declined against the dollar. The rupee has fallen in price by about ten percent in a year. Such an impact of the exchange rate underestimates the final financial indicators. The real sales volumes in national money are even higher.
Apple is actively developing its own retail network in the country. In February, the company opened a new store in Mumbai. This is the brand's sixth official point of sale. Previously, localization requirements limited the opening of branded stores. The situation changed after the softening of government policy. The online store was launched back in 2020. The first offline stores appeared in 2023. High import taxes make the equipment expensive for buyers. The base model of the iPhone 17 costs about $870. In the US, a similar device sells for $799. The company offers special programs to stimulate demand. Customers can use cashback on credit cards. There are also student discounts and a trade-in program. Such measures help the company to increase its market share.
India plays a key role in Apple's manufacturing strategy. There are five smartphone assembly plants in the country. Currently, every fourth iPhone is manufactured at Indian facilities. These enterprises have become the main source of supplies to the United States. The company is diversifying supply chains globally. This reduces dependence on a single production region. China remains the largest overseas market. However, competition with local brands is intensifying there. Sales in China totaled $18.8 billion. This is slightly below the expectations of some industry analysts. Tim Cook regularly calls India a priority destination. Local production helps to optimize logistics costs. The local government actively supports the creation of new jobs.
