Boomitra issues a record 3 million soil-based carbon credits

Boomitra announced the issuance of 3.03 million verified carbon credits following the project's approval by the Verra VM0042 methodology. This is the largest soil credit issuance in the world to date and the first of its kind in North America.
The project, located in northern Mexico, covers approximately 4 million acres of pastureland in the states of Chihuahua and Sonora. As part of the initiative, 158 farmers are implementing regenerative grazing practices. Rotating pastures extends the land's recovery period, improves soil structure, increases biodiversity, and enhances carbon sequestration. According to the company, more than 3 million tons of CO₂ equivalent were removed from 2019 to 2022.
Some demand has already been secured: the Singapore government has selected Boomitra to supply 625,000 loans under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Among the corporate buyers are Deloitte NSE, DP World, and the Ethereum Climate Platform. Thus, the project combines a voluntary market with elements of government climate regulation.
Special emphasis is placed on the social component: at least 75% of the gross proceeds from loan sales are allocated to farmers and local communities. The project is also undergoing Climate, Community & Biodiversity certification, which could strengthen its ESG positioning.
