BTC Funding Rate on Binance Reaches Two-Month High

The funding rate for perpetual Bitcoin futures on Binance has reached its highest level in over two months. CryptoQuant analyst Arab Chain warned of the risk of forced closures of long positions if BTC falls. At the time of analysis, the coin was trading around $78,000.

Why the Cost of Long Positions Has Increased

Arab Chain reported that the funding rate reached 0.01 with a 30-day average of about 0.0046. For the BTCUSDT contract on Binance, this is approximately 0.0100% for an eight-hour interval, not 1%.

Funding is regular payments between holders of long and short positions on perpetual futures. With a positive rate, buyers pay sellers. The mechanism keeps the contract price close to the spot price and reflects increased demand for bets on growth.

An increased rate does not itself predict the price direction. However, with a large number of leveraged positions, a sharp drop in BTC could trigger liquidations of long trades. Forced sales can amplify the downward movement.

What Levels Analysts Are Discussing

Coin22 commentator highlighted $80,000 as resistance and $75,000 as support. According to his scenario, losing $75,000 while failing to return above $80,000 increases the risk of a decline to $70,000. These are conditional technical benchmarks, not a forecast with a set probability.

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes also considers the possibility of Bitcoin's weakness persisting until the Federal Reserve or commercial banks resume balance sheet expansion. This is an analyst's position, not an established reason for the price movement.

What Network Activity Shows

According to calculations by analyst Axel Adler Jr., as of November 1, the 30-day average number of active Bitcoin addresses was 629,000, 43% below the peak of December 2024. This does not mean a 43% reduction in BTC owners: addresses and users are not identical.

The average daily transfer volume for the same period reached about 819,000 BTC, only 5.4% below the level of December 2024. The difference between the metrics shows that a decrease in the number of active addresses cannot be directly equated to a similarly strong drop in transaction volume.

For risk assessment, the dynamics of the funding rate, open interest, liquidation volume, and price behavior at nearby levels are important. None of the indicators alone confirms the start of a rise or fall.
