ByteDance expands AI in the US

Chinese company ByteDance is accelerating its artificial intelligence development in the United States, posting nearly 100 job openings at its US division. These positions are part of the Seed team, an internal AI development organization established in 2023 with research sites in the US, Singapore, and China.
According to the published job postings, the new employees will be involved in generating and processing international datasets for large-scale language models, developing tools for generating text, images, and video, and conducting research in humanoid AI. A separate area of focus is the creation of scientific models to accelerate drug development.
The expansion of its US staff comes as the company attempts to alleviate regulatory pressure. ByteDance recently announced a deal to sell part of TikTok's US operations to non-Chinese investors. This move is aimed at allaying concerns from US authorities, who have been raising national security concerns for several years.
US lawmakers have repeatedly highlighted the risks of potential access to US user data and possible influence on content recommendation algorithms. In this context, the active development of AI in the US appears to be an attempt to strengthen the company's position in the world's largest tech market and demonstrate a long-term strategy for presence outside of China.
