The Chinese ByteDance Corporation is actively developing artificial intelligence across the entire technology chain, covering consumer chatbots, video content generation, cloud infrastructure, and the development of its own semiconductor solutions. According to analysts, the internal AI assistant project, launched in Shanghai in the summer of 2023, transformed into the Doubao service, which two years later reached an audience of 324 million monthly users. The company's founder, Zhang Yiming, intends to shift the strategic focus of the brand, known for TikTok and Douyin platforms, towards an integrated AI platform with mass distribution, which is confirmed by the large-scale expansion of the data center network and the strengthening of the Volcano Engine cloud division.

The intensification of research accelerated after the release of the DeepSeek R1 model in early 2025, which served as a signal of the critical importance of the quality of the basic algorithms. In response, ByteDance recruited Wu Yunhui, former vice president of research at Google DeepMind, who led the fundamental research team at Seed, which consists of about two thousand specialists.

One of the company's key achievements was the Seedance 2.0 model for video generation, released in February 2026. Having exclusive access to vast amounts of video data through the TikTok and Douyin platforms provides ByteDance with a significant competitive advantage over other developers such as Alibaba and Kling.
