Statistics Canada has released the latest data on the country's foreign trade. The state's trade surplus reached 3.86 billion Canadian dollars in June. This figure was the fourth consecutive monthly excess of exports over imports. The total volume of shipments of goods abroad increased by 0.4 percent. Exports of metals and non-metallic mineral products increased by 16.5 percent. The main driver was a 27.9 percent increase in the supply of raw gold and silver. The growth was facilitated by active shipments of precious metals to the UK. Foreign residents have also significantly increased purchases of Canadian gold. The total volume of national exports reached a record 77.5 billion dollars. This value was the fifth consecutive monthly increase in this macroeconomic indicator.

The steady growth in gold exports fully offset the decline in energy supplies. Crude oil exports fell by 11.1 percent due to changes in global prices. Shipments of refined products also decreased by 16.9 percent due to price reasons. At the same time, the total volume of national imports reached a record level of 73.6 billion dollars. Imports of electronic and electrical equipment increased by 11.7 percent. The key factor was a 59 percent jump in purchases of computers and peripherals. Companies actively imported processor blocks from the USA for the construction of data centers. In the first half of the year, computer equipment imports increased by 36.7 percent. This indicator significantly exceeds the results of the same period last year.

The Statistical Agency also described in detail the structure of bilateral trade with the main partners. Canada's trade surplus with the United States of America has shrunk to $10 billion. In May, this indicator was at a much higher level. At the same time, the trade deficit with the rest of the world has decreased significantly. The negative balance with countries outside the United States decreased to 6.1 billion dollars. Previously, this deficit figure was 7.4 billion Canadian dollars. The change in balance is due to the redistribution of flows of goods between different regions. Analysts continue to carefully study the published macroeconomic statistics of foreign trade. These data help to better understand the current structural shifts in the national economy.
