The Chinese government has officially approved a comprehensive renewable energy development plan that sets a mandatory target for increasing wind and solar energy generation by fifty-three percent over the next five years. The document provides for an increase in the total production of renewable resources to 1.8 billion tons of conventional fuel by 2030, which represents a significant increase compared with the figure of 1.18 billion tons recorded in 2025. It is noteworthy that this is the first time that a state target in the field of clean energy has been granted mandatory status, which underlines the strategic importance of this area for the national economy and energy security.

According to the approved parameters, wind and solar energy, supported by modern energy storage systems, should provide eight percent of installed capacity during peak load periods by 2030. In addition, renewable sources are designed to cover twenty percent of electricity consumption at times of sharp demand growth. To achieve these goals, the country plans to add over three hundred gigawatts of peak renewable energy capacity. Special attention is being paid to the use of wind and solar energy outside the traditional energy sector, including heating, cooling and green hydrogen production, which is expected to reach two million metric tons per year by the end of the decade.

The plan also includes ambitious targets for the development of hydropower, envisaging a total capacity of five hundred and seventy gigawatts by 2030, including one hundred and sixty gigawatts of pumped storage capacity. Special attention is paid to innovative infrastructure solutions, such as the construction of deep-sea offshore wind power bases and their integration with underwater data centers. Beijing intends to implement pilot projects of renewable energy megabases providing exclusively environmentally friendly electricity transmission via ultra-high-voltage lines, which will significantly increase the share of green resources in the overall structure of the country's energy supply.
