In China, a surgeon from Brazil performed surgery through a robotic system, more than 10,000 km away from the patient. Carlos Eduardo Domene controlled the equipment installed at Chengdu Hospital and noted perfect image clarity and no delays in signal transmission. This procedure was included in a list of seven remote surgical interventions successfully performed in March at the International Center for Remote Robotic Surgery at Sichuan University Western China Hospital.

These include operations on the liver, ventricles, and pancreas. The Center started on 21 March as a worldwide platform for intellectual surgery. As the vice president of the clinic, U Hoon, has said, implementing the new system can reduce patient expenses (both financial and temporary) by up to 80%.

Domeme, who also leads the Brazilian Association of Robotics, noted that Chinese medtechnologies are being actively implemented in Brazil through the "Belt and Path" initiative. In July 2026, the hospital intends to launch a remote control center for surgical robots in Egypt to enhance the skills of local doctors.
