The American technology company Cloudflare has officially announced the launch of a new Cloudflare Wallets solution. This tool is designed for the developing segment of the agent-based Internet, allowing offline programs to store stablecoins. AI agents will be able to independently pay for various APIs, purchase digital services, and receive incoming payments. The new development eliminates one of the key problems of modern autonomous systems related to the lack of native ways of conducting financial transactions. Software agents have previously faced the need to register and interact with interfaces created specifically for people. Cloudflare representatives consider the presented solution to be an essential element of the emerging agent-based economy. Autonomous systems will be able to purchase data and various digital services through micropayments. All calculations will be carried out by stablecoins through a specially developed x402 protocol. This standard allows you to attach a payment directly to a regular HTTP request.

The developers have introduced two main categories of wallets that differ in functionality. The first type is intended for the direct account holders, the second is for the AI agents themselves. Virtual Wallet functions through API keys, allowing the agent to pay for services without constant confirmation from a human. At the same time, the account owner gets the opportunity to set certain spending limits and restrictions. The administrator can set a list of allowed services and the maximum amount per transaction. Such restrictions make the autonomous operation of software agents much safer. The company also demonstrated an example of corporate use of the new infrastructure. The administrator will be able to allocate a separate weekly budget for each employee to use AI services. The agent will automatically pay for the necessary APIs within the established rules.

In addition to payment functions, Cloudflare introduced a mechanism for identifying agents through a special cloudflare pay domain. Thanks to this solution, AI agents will be able to confirm their affiliation to a specific organization or user. Representatives of the company explained that websites today know almost nothing about agents. Having a permanent digital identity should significantly simplify trust between sellers and autonomous systems. Cloudflare strives to provide all the necessary building blocks for the development of agent-based commerce. The Monetization Gateway will allow merchants to receive payments without a traditional payment infrastructure. The launch of Cloudflare Wallets takes place against the background of the active development of tools for autonomous systems. Previously, MetaMask introduced its own non-custodial Agent Wallet wallet. This solution supports the Ethereum and Hyperliquid ecosystems for software agents.
